You're reading: Spanish opera

Acclaimed soprano from Spain Montserrat Caballé will bring world-class opera to Kyiv.

Caballé’s performance will be accompanied by the symphony orchestra of well-known conductor Jose Collado.

Montserrat transcends a merely polished and technical performance: her singing is permeated with powerful emotional energy.

She has gained special prominence after her collaboration with Freddy Mercury on the album “Barcelona.” Montserrat has brought to life such historical characters as Katherine of Aragon, Maria Magdalene and Cleopatra.

Caballé is also an honorable ambassador to the UN and a volunteer ambassador to UNESCO.

Caballé was born in Barcelona and graduated from the Liceu Conservatory with a gold medal. Upon graduation she moved to Basel, Switzerland where she debuted in “La Bohème.” She has joined the Basel Opera company for several years, after which she returned to Barcelona.

After Caballé’s performance at New York’s Carnegie Hall in 1965 she earned a 25-minute standing ovation and international fame.
