GALLERIES

THURSDAY 8

“Shopping.” Exhibit by Alevtyna Kakhidze

The “Shopping” exhibition created by Kyiv artist Alevtyna Kakhidze especially for Ya Gallery represents an unusual concept of exhibiting works at an art gallery. The drawings depict Louis Vuitton bags, Zenith watches and other luxury items are displayed in the form of  piled up copies. According to Kakhidze, the originals never look perfect, while copies always look ideal – like the new items in the shop windows. And the piles symbolize consumer culture.

“Mano&Ruka.” Paintings by Oleksiy Malykh and Elger Aragundi

Ukrainian Artist Oleksiy Malykh invited Elger Aragundi from Ecuador to paint together in his Kyiv work-shop. As a result the two artists from different continents and coming from different cultures created a common visual world, proving once again that the language of art is universal. The name of the exhibition “Mano&Ruka” that contains the word “hand” in Spanish and Ukrainian describes the essence of the project.

Russian band The White Trainers Community, playing in “mod-revival” style, call themselves the “new heroes of 70s British rock.” TWTC members spent a couple of years living in London, which is now noticeable in the rather genuine British accent of the lead singer.
