The sixth annual Day of Europe will be celebrated in Kyiv on May 11. It will have a wide variety of cultural activities and conclude with a major rock concert. One of the highlights will be the European Village on Khreschatyk, which will have 50 pavilions hosting Europe’s nations. Twenty-eight embassies will be there along with host Ukraine providing visitors the opportunity to find out more about Europe’s diverse nations.

Food connoisseurs and gourmets will enjoy themselves in the European Food Corner which will offer all kinds of European culinary delights. Arrive in the morning or early afternoon as the really tasty stuff will soon disappear.

Fittingly, for the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, two Language Schools will be teaching you new words and phrases in other languages. On top of which, two Public Discussion Tents will give visitors the chance to listen to highprofile celebrity speakers from all over Ukraine and the EU debate important topical issues. They will also be encouraged to express their own views and opinions.

The tents placed in the European Village will provide tourist information and material about the geography, history, culture, people and cities of the participating countries. At most tents you’ll also be able to take part in games and quizes and win some souvenirs.

Most countries have also prepared music and drama pieces by their top performers that can be watched at the celebration’s Arts & Music Corner.

Europe Day celebrations will close with a concert at Maidan Nezalezhnosti. Headliners include Ukrainian band Vopli Vidopliasova and renowned European bands such as Italian punkrock band Vanilla Sky and Lithuanian band SKAMP.

The Vanilla Sky punk rockers are known for their ironic cover of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” which can be heard on the majority of large radio stations all over Italy and Europe. On YouTube, the video was among the most played stream all over the world. The band is now touring, promoting their latest album “Changes” and have performed in Germany, Switzerland, France, Greece, Spain, Slovenia, Holland, England and Japan.

Lithuanian SKAMP blends pop, rock, hiphop, and reggae genres into a unique alternative sound.  SKAMP rose to fame in Lithuania with a cover of George Gershwin’s “Summertime.” The song was an instant success in Lithuania and they went on to release six studio albums. SKAMP have supported several worldfamous artists and groups such as The Black Eyed Peas, Wheatus, Bomfunk MCs etc.

Khreschatyk, Maidan Nezalezhnosti. May 11, 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
