NEWS ITEM: After hundreds of journalists and activists protested the libel bill in front of parliament on Oct. 1, lawmakers nixed the law in second reading the next day. However, also on Oct. 2, they passed another bill that bans propaganda promoting homosexuality, raising a new human rights outcry. The bill, which needs to be passed in the second reading and signed by the president to become law, bans any form of “propaganda,” including speaking about homosexuality in public and in the news media, as well as video, audio and photo materials that cover the topic.
