NEWS ITEM: Hyundai high-speed trains, which got terrible publicity because they broke down almost every day during the December sub-zero cold snap, have been operating without troubles since the start of 2013. This was proudly reported by Ukrzaliznytsya, the state-owned railway monopoly, in an official Jan.15 statement. “Employees of Hyundai Rotem company are now placed in every train interchange station. Since Jan. 20, 2013 they will also accompany trains,” the statement reads. Ukraine spent $300 million for 10 South Korea-made Hyundai trains earlier in 2012. But in December, at least seven of them went out of service, leaving frustrated and shivering passengers stuck inside trains for hours with the heat off. In most cases, passengers were moved to other trains, experiencing several hours of delay.
