First Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin wrote a letter to the Congress on Feb. 4, his third to U.S. officials in the past few months. In his letter he thanked unspecified members of Congress for inviting him to the National Prayer Breakfast with U.S. President Barack Obama, but expressed regret at not being able to attend. “Unfortunately, I am unable to accept your gracious invitation as the U.S. Embassy here in Kyiv has continued to delay issuance of a visa to the point where there is now insufficient time for me to make travel arrangements that would allow me to attend this important event,” he wrote. In a previous letter on Dec. 3, Kuzmin complained to Obama about having his multiple-entry tourist visa revoked, a circumstance he learned about from U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine John F. Tefft on Oct. 19. Tefft said Kuzmin violated the terms of his tourist visa by conducting official business in July without notifying relevant authorities.
