As the Nov. 28-29 Eastern Partnership summit approaches, tensions are high in Ukraine over one of the biggest stumbling blocks to Ukraine’s signing of an association agreement – the European Union’s demand for the freedom of ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Special envoys of the European Parliament Pat Cox and Alexander
Kwasniewski on Oct. 31 called on the government and opposition parties
in the Verkhovna Rada “to make every effort to reach a consensus on the
legislative steps forward and to do so as a matter of urgency.”
