Late on April 8, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) alleged that pro-Russian separatists who had seized the local SBU headquarters in Luhansk had taken 60 hostages.
After negotiations, the hostages walked out the next morning. However,
the people in question turned out to be other pro-Russian demonstrators
who agreed with the armed gunmen and who had been participating in local
demonstrations in support of seceding from Ukraine and joining the
Russian Federation.
