During his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Sept. 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a global anti-terrorist coalition to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria that has taken over parts of both Mideast nations.

He started bombing days later, with attacks aimed instead at enemies of
the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad, a dictator that Moscow backs. As
President Petro Poroshenko said in his speech to the UN assembly on
Sept. 29, Putin is a strange person to be leading an anti-terrorism
coalition since the Kremlin dictator has been sponsoring terrorism and
war in Ukraine since Viktor Yanukovych fled to Russia during the
EuroMaidan Revolution on Feb. 22, 2014.
