Ancient times of Kyiv Rus revived at festival

A unique festival to honor the 1,530th anniversary since the founding of Kyiv and mark Independence Day of Ukraine was held between Aug.24-26 in Kyivska Rus outdoor medieval themed park in the village of Kopachiv in Kyiv Oblast.

The scenes from life of medieval Kyiv of 9-11th centuries were revived in a series of spectacular performances and traditional games. Members of the historical reconstruction clubs from seven countries including Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Poland, Lithuania and Germany dressed in medieval armor from head to toe competed in the fencing tournament.

The program also included master classes in ancient folk arts and crafts, fireworks display and ethnic disco party.
