Victoria Nuland, US assistant secretary of state, seeks to inspire Shevchenko University speech (VIDEO)

Nuland announced that, with Russia’s decision to pull out of the Future Leadership Exchange Program, or FLEX program, Ukraine will get more than 100 extra slots — bringing to more than 300 the number of high school students in Ukraine who can study in America for one year.

Some excerpts:

“A successful, clean, strong, united, democratic Ukraine is the best antidote to forces of yesterday on this continent,” Nuland said, concluding that Ukraine’s success is the “linchpin” to a united and peaceful Europe.

“It’s you – the students of Ukraine – who inspired not only your country but also the entire world, that change is possible, and that if you are willing to stand up for freedom, and if you are willing to stand up for democracy, if you are willing to stand out in the cold as so many of you did just last winter, things can change,” Nuland said at the beginning of her speech.
