The two diplomats met in the American embassy residence and gave a public greeting but little details of their discussion have emerged other than Kerry stressing the importance of de-escalating the situation on the ground. 

Top US diplomat John Kerry met his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Dec. 14, amid anger in Moscow over the prospect of new US sanctions and possible lethal military aid for Ukraine.
