Rada to raise cigarette excise between 16 and 20 percent

The Verkhovna Rada intends to raise the excise rate for filter and non-filter cigarettes from 16% to 20%.

A total of 351 of required 226 deputies backed the bill No.3281 "On amending the law "On excise rate for tobacco products" in the first reading.

The bill offers to fix the ad valorem excise rate not in the ratio to the sales of the product, but in the ratio to the ceiling retail price.

Besides, the Verkhovna Rada intends to fix the ad valorem excise rate at the level of 20% for all other types of tobacco goods.

Currently, the excise for cigarettes, chewing and snuffing tobaccos is 8%, smoking tobacco 10%, tobacco and tobacco substitutes is at the level of 0%.

Besides, the parliament intends to fix the specific excise rates for cigarettes: Hr 60 for 100 cigarettes; Hr 60 per hundred filter cigarettes, Hr 35 for non-filter cigarettes; specific excise of Hr 25/kilo of tobacco, Hr 25/kilo of smoking tobacco, Hr 10/kilo of chewing and snuffing tobaccos.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on July 31, the Verkhovna Rada raised the excise for tobacco goods.
