Gazprom says Ukraine will have to pay for stolen gas at market price

5 January, 16:43 | Interfax-Ukraine
Ukraine will have to pay for illegally siphoned Russian gas at a market price of $450 per 1,000 cubic meters, Russian gas giant Gazprom has said.

"The stolen gas cannot be repaid at another price. This is gas that was not received by European consumers, and it should be [paid for] at this price," Gazprom Deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev said on the NTV television channel.

Medvedev is currently representing Gazprom's interests in Paris.

He expressed hope that EU countries would call for Ukraine to resume talks with Russia on gas supplies.

The Ukrainians are world masters when it comes to digging one\'s own hole. Just amazing. You think... no, they are not going to do this.... they do... then they get the flak for it and still sit there arrogantly as if they invented the world.

i stronly believe an agreement should be done. ukraine is not a russian colony and they must pay to get the gas passed through their territory, i believe if gas would pass through germany, they would pay much higher price for the pipelines....on the otherhands, ukraine did not pay their bill for the gas they got, so in this story the truth is in the middle......they should sit and find soon an agreement,

I agree - if the gas was stolen, it should be paid at the same level as the lawful byers would have paid. If you have a loaf of bread for sale and asking price was a dollar, but somebody stole it and get caught after he had eaten your bread - he owes you a lost dollar.
Not the fifty cents you were often charging the beggars out of goodness of your heart.
The price of freedom from Russia is simple - start paying the market price. You can\'t have both, the goodwill of Russia and the membership in the NATO.
