Putin: Russia and Ukraine should meet gas supply obligations to Europe "I hope that all contractual obligations will be met by both Gazprom and by its Ukrainian partners," Putin told a press conference after talks with his Danish counterpart Lars Lokke Rasmussen.

Sweden, the current EU president, was briefed on energy supplies to Ukraine a day earlier, Putin said.

Russia has paid $2.5 billion for all transit fees until the first quarter of 2010 inclusively, he said.

"In fact we provided massive financial aid to our Ukrainian partners," Putin said. According to the International Monetary Fund, "Ukraine has no problem with money, money is there," he said.

"The head of the Ukrainian government says that President Yuschenko is blocking a Ukrainian Central Bank transfer of money that is due to be paid. We know nothing, we do not interfere with Ukraine's domestic affairs during the election campaign," Putin said.

"Until now our Ukrainian partners have met their obligations, although the current crisis made life difficult for everyone. We hope that these obligations will continue to be met," Putin said.
