Krakow Post: Swine flu in Poland The A/H1N1 flu virus has spread from Ukraine to Poland in recent days. Ukraine declared an epidemic of the virus last week. Yesterday, the Ukrainian vice minister of health said that there have so far been 22 officially confirmed cases of the A/H1N1 virus, while 67 people have died of flu-like symptoms, and about 255, 000 are sick with the flu or with flu symptoms. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty: Swine flu mania in Kyiv Upon landing at Kyiv’s Boryspil airport on Sunday afternoon, I was met by Ukrainian passport-control personnel in surgical masks. According to a Nov. 3 report by Euronews, police and customs officers on Romania’s border with Ukraine have stepped up their anti-H1N1 measures after Kyiv claimed the virus in the west of its country had reached epidemic levels.

The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed yesterday that it was sending a team of experts to help the government of Ukraine, where it said more than 2, 300 people have been hospitalized for what is suspected to be pandemic H1N1 influenza and 38 have died. Today a Ukrainian health official put the death toll from flu and acute respiratory illnesses at 67, according to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) report. Deputy Health Minister Vasyl Lazorysynets said the country has had 255, 000 cases of flu and respiratory illness, with 15, 000 people hospitalized, AFP reported. Read the story here.
