London Evening Standard: Murder police set to quiz widow of Londoner killed in Ukraine The family of a London businessman run down by a car in the Ukraine has welcomed the opening of a murder investigation into his death.Barry Pring, 47, of Battersea, was killed on his first wedding anniversary in February 2008 as he waited for a cab on the hard shoulder of a dual carriageway on the outskirts of Kiev.

The car was travelling at 80mph with its lights switched off and debris found at the scene included false number plates and a bogus taxi sign.

Police in the Ukraine have now upgraded their investigation from unexplained traffic accident. Officers want to interview Mr Pring’s widow Anna Ziuzina, a 33-year-old former stripper who met him through a dating agency.

Deutsche Welle: EU calls for justice reform in Ukraine The EU sees Yulia Tymoshenko as a victim of political justice in Ukraine. But EU parliamentarians fail to agree on how react. Should they boycott the European football championship?

EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule painted a grim picture of the situation in Ukraine. "Politically motivated justice is a systemic problem in Ukraine," he said. The most prominent, but by far not the only victim of this problem is former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Tymoshenko is in prison for alleged abuse of power while in office. She went on hunger strike for some time in order to protest against poor conditions in prison. At the EU parliament in Strasbourg, her daughter Yevgenia was present on Tuesday when some MEPs rolled out a banner with a picture of Tymoshenko and the slogan "Freedom for Julia."

EUobserver: Ukraine firms up promise on Tymoshenko monitoring BRUSSELS - Ukraine has confirmed details of an EU parliament mission to monitor the well-being of former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

A parliament source said on 21 May that Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has sent a letter to EU parliament President Martin Schulz "which creates a formal basis for the president to take action."

The Azarov letter is a reply to Schulz' earlier note, on 16 May, detailing what he expects to happen.

Irish Times: Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland may visit Ukraine for OSCE Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore said he had no official plans to include a match in Ukraine during the Euro 2012 championships. “However, I cannot at this time rule out a visit to the Ukraine at some point this year, including in my separate capacity as chairman-in-office of the OSCE,’’ he added.

He said this was a forum in which Ukraine played an important role and it would assume the chairmanship next year.

He said Ukraine also helped in the development of iron ore mines in Balochistan, to beneficiate iron ore for production of steel in Pakistan.

BBC: European lawmakers debate the situation in Ukraine The EU-Ukraine association agreement cannot be signed until certain conditions are met by the Ukraine, namely on the supremacy of law, the Commission has said.

Speaking on behalf of the EU's foreign affairs representative, Stefan Fule said the Ukraine must redress the "systemic problem" of "selective justice", conduct free and fair elections and resume delayed reforms before it can become a closer EU ally.

Independent: England fans warned after gay pride parade is ambushed by 500 ultra-right hooligans in Ukraine Gay England football fans travelling to Ukraine for Euro 2012 have been warned to keep a low profile for their own safety.

The advice came after Kyiv's first ever gay pride parade was cancelled on Sunday amid fears of violence from far-right thugs.

Television pictures showed Svyatoslav Sheremet, head of the Gay Forum of Ukraine, being kicked and jumped on by a group of men after the event was stopped.

Independent:Ukraine Olympic chief filmed selling Olympics tickets The General Secretary of Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee has been filmed offering to sell several thousand pounds worth of Olympics tickets to an undercover reporter posing as a ticket tout.

Volodymyr Gerashchenko, who has been head of Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee since 1997, told the reporter from BBC London News he had up to 100 tickets to sell.

Daily Mail: Topless Ukrainian feminists attempt to steal Euro trophy in protest ahead of tournament Topless activists from a Ukrainian women's rights group were arrested after grabbing the European Championship trophy while it was on public display in the southeast of the country.

Security guards moved in to stop Inna Shevchenko, 21, an activist in the Femen group, who grabbed hold of the 60cm-high cup while it was being exhibited in a central square in Dnipropetrovsk.

European plastics news: Ukrainian billionaire to invest ˆ1.7bn in petrochemicals Ukrainian billionaire Dmitry Firtash considering investing more than €1.7-2bn in the country’s petrochemical business over the next 7-8 years.

Firtash says the money will go towards increasing production methyl, propylene, ethylene, polystyrene, caprolactam and chemical fibres at DF Holding. DF Holding is a financial conglomerate, owned by Firtash, which includes companies such as Rivneazot, Styrene and Azot.

Radio Netherlands Worldwide: Netherlands stands up for gay rights in Kyiv Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal says he regrets that the Gay Pride parade in Kiev was cancelled because of security concerns.

“The threat posed by anti-gay protesters fits with a political climate which has Ukraine drafting legislation that is seen as potentially discriminatory against gays.” The Netherlands will address the issue at the end of this month during the EU-Ukraine talks on the constitutional state.
