Unfortunately, we are observing some very negative political developments. Like Yulia Tymoshenko, one opposition leader after another is being placed in prison. Russia Today: Ukraine’s LGBT leader beaten upon canceling gay parade Conflict for conflict’s sake is what some anti-gay campaigners in Ukraine were apparently seeking as yet another LGBT parade failed to march through Kiev. As Ukraine's Gay Forum head called the action off, hooligans cornered the man to sort him out.

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community of Ukraine were diverted from their gay pride route on Sunday, as half a thousand of nationalists and anti-gay activists arrived at the parade’s meeting point in downtown Kiev. Some ultra-right and religious campaigners were merely holding placards reading “No to gays!” but police reports said nationalists were firm in their resolve to attack the march.

The Advocate: Image shows gay activist being pummeled A brutal attack by neo-Nazis on a gay rights leader in Ukraine was caught by photographers.

Svyatoslav Sheremet is the head of the Gay Forum of Ukraine. Sheremet's group was organizing a Pride festival in Kyiv, but was prevented from doing so when rightwing extremists, including neo-Nazis, descended on the city. After Sheremet told the media that the festival was canceled due to the dangerous situation at hand, three Nazis attacked Sheremet. The men only stopped beating Sheremet when they realized their actions were being caught by the cameras of journalists. Sheremet was bloodied, but pictures show him standing upright after the beating.

Chicago Tribune: Lighten up for the Euros, Ukraine's police told Ukraine's Euro 2012 organisers on Monday urged local police to reform their poor image for heavy-handedness and take a softly-softly approach with thousands of soccer fans during next month's championship.

"We hope our police will be service-oriented and tolerant with fans. We have expressed this message many times to our colleagues in the Interior Ministry," Euro 2012 director Markian Lubkivsky told reporters.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty: Yanukovych rules out Tymoshenko treatment abroad Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has ruled out the idea of jailed opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko being released for treatment abroad ahead of next month's Euro 2012 soccer championships, which Ukraine and Poland are hosting.

His remarks come as Germany has offered to provide medical care to the ailing ex-premier and again hinted at a possible boycott by Chancellor Angela Merkel of matches played in Ukraine once the tournament kicks off in co-host Poland on June 8.
