Brookings: Ukrainian elections – it’s Yuliya vs. Victor Yanukovych polled 35.4 percentto Tymoshenko’s 25 percent, with the rest of the vote scattered among 16 other candidates. Under Ukraine's election laws, a candidate must take 50 percentto win outright. Turnout was nearly 67 percent, terrific by American standards but low for Ukraine. That's understandable given the frustration with President Victor Yushchenko and the governments that have run the country since the 2004 Orange Revolution.Read the story here.

RIA Novosti: Gazprom sure of continued timely gas payment after Ukraine vote MOSCOW, January 19 (RIA Novosti) - Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said on Jan. 19 he could foresee no problems with gas payments by Ukraine after the presidential elections in the former Soviet republic. "Ukraine pays for gas under the contract in full. After the elections, the situation will not change and a regular payment is due to be made on February 7.
