Taxi ripoffs at the airport Dear Editor:

I am very negatively surprised at how the official airport taxi at Kyiv Boryspil International Airport operates. This is the official taxi organized at the airport by an official taxi manager!!! They are not the so-call freelancers who offer rides to non-Ukrainian-speaking tourists.

RIA Novosti: Uncertain world: Russia lays siege to Ukraine The presidents of Russia and Ukraine have met for the first time since Vladimir Putin’s re-election. This is a strange period in bilateral relations: nothing seems to be happening and there are no public conflicts between the two countries, yet occasional statements coming from both sides clearly point to mutual dissatisfaction and strain in the relationship.

A government of raiders This time, I have to start with a frank disclosure. For 40 years, I have been a faithful reader of the Kyiv-based journal “Vsesvit” (“The World”). For more than 30 years, I have been one of its contributors. For two decades, I have been a staff editor there, ending my career in 1994 as a deputy editor-in-chief. And today, after moving to academia, I still remain a committed reader, author, and member of the editorial board.
