RIA Novosti: EU ambassador says no membership for Ukraine until rule of law maintained Russia’s news agency RIA Novosti reported on Nov. 13 that the “European Union’s ambassador in Kyiv has said Ukraine’s integration into the bloc may be jeopardized by the jailing of the country’s former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.”

Citing an interview given to Voice of America radio station in Kyiv, RIA Novosti reported that Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira confirmed the EU reached a definitive agreement with Ukraine on the text of a long-awaited association agreement but stressed that the country’s eventual EU membership could not be guaranteed.

Rianovosti: Russian Helicopters signs $1.2 billion engine deal with Ukraine's Motor Sich News agency Rianovosti reported on Nov. 13 that Russian Helicopters, which designs and manufactures civil and military rotorcraft, and Ukraine's Motor Sich engine-building firm have signed a $1.2 billion contract on the supply of Ukrainian engines for Russian commercial helicopters.

PanArmenian.net: French prime minister opposed to expediting EU accession for Ukraine, Georgia According to an Oct. 2 report by PanArmenian.net, French Prime Minister Francois Fillon spoke against speeding up EU accession efforts for Ukraine and Georgia.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Warsaw-hosted EUEastern Partnership Summit late last week, Fillon said: “though in sympathy with Ukraine and Georgia's expectations, I believe debating over the type of EU relationship with the countries in question would be ineffective at this point.”

“Europe is somewhat weary of the idea of EU expansion. The West cannot help feeling that Bulgaria and Romania's 2007 EU accession was much too premature,” he added.
