Quote of the day
“English fans need to know that if they try to mess with Ukrainian women then we will try to mess with them. The sex industry exploits women who are so poor and often uneducated. That is why we are going to try to attack every match.”

Pete Danko writes:"The giant, 80-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic (PV) installation at Okhotnykovo in Ukraine is complete. While it was under construction the plant’s developers had said it would become the largest on the European continent, an assertion we gently questioned. Now, Worldwide News Ukraine has scaled down the claim to the still-very-impressive “largest in Central and Eastern Europe.” Nov 13, 2011 at 12:09 | Kyiv Post |

In an Oct. 13 report in the Financial Times, Roman Olearchyk writes:"Ukraine has launched fresh criminal charges against Yulia Tymoshenko just two days after she was jailed for seven years. Kyiv's decision to pursue a new prosecution against the former prime minister calls into question its commitment to European Union integration. EU officials had warned Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine’s president, that “politically motivated” prosecutions of Tymoshenko and her allies could derail Kyiv's hopes of completing trade and political agreements this December with the 27-nation bloc." Roman Olearchyk in Kyiv, Neil Buckley in London and Peter Spiegel in Brussels write:"A Kyiv court has jailed Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukraine’s former prime minister and co-leader of the 2004 Orange Revolution, for seven years, raising doubts about the country’s democratic future and its hopes for closer integration with the west. The verdict immediately put Kyiv at loggerheads with both its biggest partners. The European Union criticized the “selective justice” meted out against a leading opposition figure, while Russia’s prime minister Vladimir Putin called the ruling – which challenged the legality of a 2009 natural gas deal with Moscow – “dangerous and counterproductive." According to an Oct. 2 report by PanArmenian.net, French Prime Minister Francois Fillon spoke against speeding up EU accession efforts for Ukraine and Georgia. Speaking on the sidelines of the Warsaw-hosted EUEastern Partnership Summit late last week, Fillon said: “though in sympathy with Ukraine and Georgia's expectations, I believe debating over the type of EU relationship with the countries in question would be ineffective at this point.” “Europe is somewhat weary of the idea of EU expansion. The West cannot help feeling that Bulgaria and Romania's 2007 EU accession was much too premature,” he added. Click here to read report. Oct 2, 2011 at 19:02 | Kyiv Post |
