Independent: England fans warned after gay pride parade is ambushed by 500 ultra-right hooligans in Ukraine Gay England football fans travelling to Ukraine for Euro 2012 have been warned to keep a low profile for their own safety.

The advice came after Kyiv's first ever gay pride parade was cancelled on Sunday amid fears of violence from far-right thugs.

Television pictures showed Svyatoslav Sheremet, head of the Gay Forum of Ukraine, being kicked and jumped on by a group of men after the event was stopped.

Independent:Ukraine Olympic chief filmed selling Olympics tickets The General Secretary of Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee has been filmed offering to sell several thousand pounds worth of Olympics tickets to an undercover reporter posing as a ticket tout.

Volodymyr Gerashchenko, who has been head of Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee since 1997, told the reporter from BBC London News he had up to 100 tickets to sell.

Security guards moved in to stop Inna Shevchenko, 21, an activist in the Femen group, who grabbed hold of the 60cm-high cup while it was being exhibited in a central square in Dnipropetrovsk.

European plastics news: Ukrainian billionaire to invest ˆ1.7bn in petrochemicals Ukrainian billionaire Dmitry Firtash considering investing more than €1.7-2bn in the country’s petrochemical business over the next 7-8 years.

Firtash says the money will go towards increasing production methyl, propylene, ethylene, polystyrene, caprolactam and chemical fibres at DF Holding. DF Holding is a financial conglomerate, owned by Firtash, which includes companies such as Rivneazot, Styrene and Azot.

Radio Netherlands Worldwide: Netherlands stands up for gay rights in Kyiv Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal says he regrets that the Gay Pride parade in Kiev was cancelled because of security concerns.

“The threat posed by anti-gay protesters fits with a political climate which has Ukraine drafting legislation that is seen as potentially discriminatory against gays.” The Netherlands will address the issue at the end of this month during the EU-Ukraine talks on the constitutional state.

As Ukraine's Gay Forum head called the action off, hooligans cornered the man to sort him out.

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community of Ukraine were diverted from their gay pride route on Sunday, as half a thousand of nationalists and anti-gay activists arrived at the parade’s meeting point in downtown Kiev. Some ultra-right and religious campaigners were merely holding placards reading “No to gays!” but police reports said nationalists were firm in their resolve to attack the march.

Svyatoslav Sheremet is the head of the Gay Forum of Ukraine. Sheremet's group was organizing a Pride festival in Kyiv, but was prevented from doing so when rightwing extremists, including neo-Nazis, descended on the city. After Sheremet told the media that the festival was canceled due to the dangerous situation at hand, three Nazis attacked Sheremet. The men only stopped beating Sheremet when they realized their actions were being caught by the cameras of journalists. Sheremet was bloodied, but pictures show him standing upright after the beating.
