Taxi ripoffs at the airport Dear Editor:

I am very negatively surprised at how the official airport taxi at Kyiv Boryspil International Airport operates. This is the official taxi organized at the airport by an official taxi manager!!! They are not the so-call freelancers who offer rides to non-Ukrainian-speaking tourists.

True judges follow democratic, not Stalinist, principles Dear Editor,

I have been following the cases of ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and ex-Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko. I note a recent revelation that the Tymoshenko judge,Rodion Kireyev, was VERY unqualified.

Ukraine-EU relations will remain frozen until Yanukovych returns to democratic path Dear Editor,

Kostiantyn Yelisieiev, Ukraine’s ambassador to the European Union, wrote (‘There is no reason for alarm in Ukraine-European Union relations,’ in the March 9 edition of the Kyiv Post) that “the establishment of the Constitutional Assembly, which with the participation of leading Ukrainian and international legal experts, NGOs and different political forces is engaged in proposing new and balanced constitutional amendments.”

Euro 2012: Maydan of hate? If the Euro 2012 started tomorrow, tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world would arrive in Kyiv. Most of them will come to the heart of modern-day Ukraine: Maidan Nezalezhnosti or Independence Square.

When visitors come to this place many they will remember the courageous protests during the 2004 Orange Revolution and for some, even the student protests and hunger strikes during the downfall of the Soviet Union in 1990. Many others, perhaps not as well-versed in history, will come to the square simply because it is one of the nicest places in Kyiv to sit, rest, people-watch, grab a snack and buy souvenirs.

Ukraine suffers from intense gender discrimination (the idea that women should be at home raising the family, while the man’s place is at work). This disparity is the root cause of the burgeoning sex industry.
