Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that a full-featured land market should be launched in coming years.

"Today, the moratorium on the purchase and sale of farmland is hindering the development of the domestic agricultural sector. The ban makes the creation of effective agricultural companies on the basis of accumulation of land ownership impossible," he said in his annual address, copies of which were released in parliament on Thursday.

The head of state said that measures to introduce the regulated farmland market are to be taken urgently.

"The main task is to launch a full-featured land market in coming years and simultaneously create reliable legal guarantees for the direct-purpose use of land," Yanukovych said.

He said that all steps in this direction would be discussed with the public.
