Ukraine has reached an agreement with China to launch a joint pilot project to upgrade Melnykov coalmine in Luhansk region, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych announced during the events dedicated to Miners' Day in Donetsk.
According to the president, Ukraine plans to raise $1 billion of Chinese investment for its coal industry, the president’s press service reported.
President Yanukovych said Ukraine is currently searching for investments that will be used to create safe conditions of work in its mines and to ensure there is a gradual transition to the safety standards used by leading European coal enterprises.
