Moscow, Sept 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Russian nuclear fuel maker OSJC TVEL and Ukrainian state-run concern Nuclear Fuel have scheduled the date of the launch of a nuclear fuel plant in Ukraine for Sept 15, 2015.

"The countdown has started and 1,455 days remain until the launch," Nuclear Fuel Concern Head Tetiana Amosova said at a conference devoted to the 15th anniversary of TVEL on Tuesday.

She said that the date was selected to take into account that the designing of the plant will finish next year and the construction will take three years.

A site in Smoline (Kirovohrad region) was selected for the construction of the plant.

The agreement on the construction was signed in October 2010.

The sides last week founded a joint venture, in which Ukraine obtained a 50% stake plus one share.

The foundation of the JV will be finalized by the end of this year.

Amosova said that in 2015 the new company will start making fuel assemblies and zirconium and stainless compounds, and by 2020 the plant will start producing fuel powder and tablets.

The cost of the plant has been estimated at $370 million.
