Delegates attending the 80th INTERPOL General Assembly in Hanoi Vietnam, (October 31 – November 3) have been updated on the INTERPOL Travel Document initiative which has now been formally recognized by 31 countries since its endorsement at the 2010 INTERPOL General Assembly in Qatar in November 2010.

The INTERPOL initiative, which includes an e-Passport booklet developed by EDAPS, has also gained the support of four important regional organizations – the African Union, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (SARPCCO).

“INTERPOL has always understood the importance and need for the Travel Document and that it has already been formally recognized by 31 countries is strong validation at a global level,” said Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble. “This is a significant achievement and we will continue to work with other member countries to gain their support.”

More than 70 countries are currently in the process of formally recognizing the INTERPOL Travel Document which has been jointly developed by INTERPOL, EDAPS and Entrust.

INTERPOL international experts, assessing the quality of documents produced by the EDAPS Consortium in Ukraine, acknowledged that they fully comply with the international standards and requirements of the International Criminal Police Organization for the production of electronic documents.
