Electricity consumption in Ukraine in January-February 2012, including transmission losses in the grids, increased by 4% (or by 1.385 billion kWh) from 2011, to 36.451 billion kWh.

As Interfax-Ukraine learned from a source at the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry, the consumption of electricity without transmission losses over the two months rose by 0.8% (or by215.7 million kWh), to 27.955 billion kWh.

Ukraine’s industry in the period posted a 1.2% decrease in electricity consumption without transmission losses, to 12.197 billion kWh. In particular, engineering enterprises decreased electricity consumption by 6.3%, to 1.130 billion kWh, metallurgy by 3.3%, to 6.173 billion kWh, while chemical and petrochemical companies increased it by 0.2%, to 1.031 billion kWh, the fuel sector by 2.4%, to 1.687 billion kWh.

Ukrainian households in the period increased consumption by 3.6%, to 8.086 billion kWh, and for municipally owned housing consumption was up by 1.3%, to 3.686 billion kWh.

The share of industry in the total consumption of electricity in the two months fell to 43.6% from 44.5% in 2011, while the share in households grew to 28.9%, from 28.1%.

Electricity consumption in February 2012 alone increased by 9.5% (or 1.599 billion kWh) from February 2011, to 18.523 billion kWh (with transmission losses) and by 5.5% (or 741.8 million kWh), to 14.182 billion kWh (without transmission losses).
