You're reading: Philip Morris increases shipments in Ukraine by 2.1% in quarter one

Philip Morris International Inc. (PMI), one of the world's largest tobacco manufacturers, in January-March 2012 increased shipments of cigarettes in Ukraine by 2.1% from January-March 2011, while the Ukrainian cigarette market grew by 5.6%, according to the company's quarterly report.

Shipments grew thanks to a rise of 31% in shipments of Parliament cigarettes, and a rise of 28.6% in shipments of Bond Street cigarettes.

Citing data of A.C. Nielsen, PMI reported that its market share in February 2012 was down by 0.3 points to 32.2%, due to declines in PMI’s low-price segments.

The share of the premium Parliament brand was up by 0.6 points to 3.1%. The share of Marlboro was up by 0.1 points, to 5.8%.

Philip Morris International is one of the largest global tobacco producers. The company produces cigarettes at over 50 factories and sells them in 160 countries.

Philip Morris Ukraine produces cigarettes at a factory in Kharkiv region. The company has been working on the Ukrainian market for more than 14 years. The company markets the following tobacco brands in Ukraine: Parliament, Marlboro, Virginia Slims, Chesterfield, Muratti, L&M, Bond Street and others.

In 2011 the company reduced cigarette shipments in Ukraine by 10.7%, with the Ukrainian cigarette market fall by 8.1%.
