The thermal power plants of electricity generating companies in January-May 2012 increased electricity generation by 7.7% or by 2.351 billion kilowatt-hours year-over-year, to 32.667 billion kilowatt-hours, a source in the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has said.

The report says that public joint-stock company Centrenergo (Kyiv region) increased electricity generation by 32% or by 1.793 billion, to 7.388 billion kilowatt-hours, public joint-stock company Zakhidenergo (Lviv) by 22% or by 1.233 billion kilowatt-hours, to 6.846 billion kilowatt-hours, public joint-stock company Donbassenergo (Donetsk region) – by 6.6% or by 240 million kilowatt-hours, to 3.894 billion kilowatt-hours, while Donetsk-based Skhidenergo LLC over the period decreased generation by 8.9% or by 742 million kilowatt-hours, to 7.617 billion kilowatt-hours, and public joint-stock company Dniproenergo – by 2.5% or by 175 million kilowatt-hours, to 6.922 billion kilowatt-hours and.

According to the report, nuclear power plants in the four months ending on May 31, 2012 increased electricity generation by 3.6% or by 1.333 billion kilowatt-hours, to 38.61 million kilowatt-hours, combined heat power plants decreased it by 7.3% or by 410 million kilowatt-hours, to 5.168 billion kilowatt-hours, including a rise of 0.02% or 400,000 kilowatt-hours generated by combined heat power plants of Kyivenergo, to 2.581 billion kilowatt-hours, hydroelectric power plants reduced electricity generation by 11% or by 625 million kilowatt-hours, to 5.043 billion kilowatt-hours and block stations and other sources by 5.7% or 222 million kilowatt-hours, to 3.689 billion kilowatt-hours.

Some 206 million kilowatt-hours of electricity was generated by alternative sources (wind power plants, solar power plants and biomass), which was 22.9 times or 197 million kilowatt-hours up year-over-year.

Electricity generation in the Ukrainian power grid in January-May 2012 rose by 3.2% or by 2.621 billion kilowatt-hours year-over-year, to 85.382 billion kilowatt-hours.

Electricity consumption in the five months grew by 1.6% or 1.305 billion kilowatt-hours, to 82.015 billion kilowatt-hours.

As reported, electricity generation in the Ukrainian power grid in 2011 came to 193.894 billion kilowatt-hours, a rise of 3.2% or 5.995 billion kilowatt-hours compared to 2010.
