President says state bank will financially support city’s Euro 2012 preparations

City officials in Lviv, western Ukraine, still don’t have a modern stadium or the money to build it, but they are step-by-step building the stadium and think their city still has a chance to host games from the Union of European Football Association’s Euro 2012 championship, which will be co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland. City officials raised Hr 50 million (almost $6 million) to fund construction of the stadium, seen above, by issuing bonds. State-owned Ukreximbank bought the bonds, of Hr 300 million offered. On June 28, Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko said the state bank would financially support the project and would buy such bonds on a regular basis. Tens of millions of additional dollars are needed to complete the 30,000 seat stadium. Some funding is being provided by the Lviv city budget.
