Ukraine has stopped export of electricity to Poland chairman of the board of director of the Korlea Invest Holding AG, Switzerland, Vasyl Danyliv, told the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia weekly.

He did not specify the date of the export termination.

Danyliv also drew attention to the reduction of the export from the Burshtynka thermal power plant island to Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania due to sudden cut in the consumption of electricity in Europe and reduction of its cost in the European markets due to the economic crunch there.

"The economic crunch provoked sudden reduction of electricity consumption and fall in prices in Europe. As a result, the competitiveness of Ukrainian electricity fell," he said.

According to unofficial information, Polish counteragent of the Ukrinterenerho company, Zomar S.A., in December 2009 refused to acquire Ukrainian electricity due to its high cost.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on September 1, 2009, the Ukrinterenerho state-run enterprise of foreign economic activity resumed the export of electricity to the Zomar S.A. energy trader, Poland.

In January-November, Ukraine exported 1,288.9 million kWh to Slovakia, 1,159.7 million kWh to Hungary, 33.5 million kWh to Romania, 6.1 million kWh to Moldova, 997.9 million kWh to Belarus, and 201.5 million kWh to Poland.

Eelectricity exports fell by 20.02% or 124.1 million kilowatt-hours to 495.9 million kilowatt-hours in October 2009 over October 2008.

In 2008, Ukraine exported 7,868.2 million kWh of electricity.
