Iraq wants to develop cooperation with Ukraine in the oil production sector.

Iraq’s Ambassador to Ukraine Khalid Jasim Al-Shamari said this in an interview with the Den newspaper.

"In the light of the good relations with Ukraine Iraq is open for the cooperation with Ukrainian companies," said Khalid Jasim Al-Shamari commenting on the possibility for engaging Ukrainian companies, including the Naftohaz Ukrainy national oil and gas company, in the oil prospecting and production.

He also said Iraq was interested in deeper trade and economic relations with Ukraine.

Al-Shamari also added his country is interested in the participation of Ukrainian companies in developing the infrastructure of Iraq.

"We need the participation of Ukrainian companies in these projects," he said.

He voiced confidence that the relations between Ukraine and Iraq will strengthen and develop in the coming years.

As earlier reported, Iraq wants to cooperate with Ukraine in the health care sector and pharmaceutics.

In June 2009, Iraq said it was interested in Ukrainian investment in the development of infrastructure of the country.
