The rate for transit of Russian natural gas through Ukrainian territory in the second quarter of 2010 will increase to $2.84-$2.88 per 1,000 cubic meters over 100 kilometers, the head of OJSC Gazprom's department for operations with the near abroad, Anatoly Podmyshalsky, said during the Ukrainian-Russian Forum in Kyiv on Apr. 15.

"In the first quarter of this year, the rate came to $2.78 but it will increase by six to 10 points in the second quarter," he said.

Podmyshalsky also said that Gazprom would transport over 116 bcm of gas through Ukrainian in 2010.

It was earlier reported that natural gas transit through Ukraine to European and CIS countries came to 95.82 bcm in 2009, which is a decrease of 19.9% from 2008.

Ukrtransgaz, a subsidiary of Naftogaz Ukrainy, operates Ukraine’s trunk gas pipelines and underground storage facilities.

The system’s capacity at entry into Ukraine comes to 288 bcm and 178.5 bcm at exit, including 142.5 bcm to European destinations.
