You're reading: Growth in cyber criminality in banking sphere seen, says SBU

Ukraine's SBU service has registered an upward trend in cyber criminality in the Ukrainian banking sector, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has said in a letter to banks.

"SBU registered a stable trend of the increase in the number of computer criminality in the banking sphere in 2009-2010. SBU prevented illegal actions using information and telecommunications technologies by some groups," reads the letter.

The NBU said that in many cases, this is linked to non-observation of requirements on protection of information in the automatized IT systems at banks.

Taking into account the quick spread of IT technologies used illegally, the NBU recommends banks to reinforce control over selection and work of employees, who have access to key documents, information systems and have a chance to amend processed information.
