Ukraine and China will discuss on August 23-27 in Beijing the state and plans for the development of cooperation in the space industry in the frames of the seventh meeting of the Ukrainian-Chinese sub-commission for cooperation in space exploration and the use of space for peaceful purposes.

As Interfax-Ukraine learned at the National Space Agency of Ukraine, the meeting participants are scheduled to consider the results of the implementation of the program of space cooperation for 2006-2010.

In addition, the parties are planning to initial a draft cooperation program for 2011-2015, which is to be signed during the official visit of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to China, which is scheduled for September.

China is among Ukraine’s major partners in space cooperation, along with Russia, the European Union, the United States, and Brazil.

The two countries are pursuing this cooperation based on a Ukrainian-Chinese intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the exploration and utilization of space for civilian purposes signed in 1995.

The Ukrainian-Chinese space cooperation plan for 2006-2010 includes 29 long-term bilateral projects on the joint development of rocketry, the implementation of research programs, such as the building of a satellite constellation to monitor earthquakes and study space weather, and the development of remote sensing spacecraft.
