Ukraine harvested 29.2 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine as of August 26, 2010, which was 21% down on 2009, the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry has reported.

The crops were harvested from an area of 11.8 million hectares, which is 80% of the forecast. The average yield of grain and leguminous crops per hectare is 24.7 quintals.

As of August 26, Ukraine had harvested 17.9 million tonnes of wheat from 6.3 million hectares, with the average yield being 28.5 quintals per hectare, and 9.24 million tonnes of barley from 4.32 million hectares, with the average yield being 21.4 quintals per hectare.

Ukraine also harvested 512,000 tonnes of rye from 280,000 hectares, with the average yield being 18.2 quintals per hectare, 485,000 of peas from 277,000 hectares, with the average yield being 17.5 quintals per hectare, 90,000 tonnes of buckwheat from 108,000 hectares, with the average yield being 8.3 quintals per hectare, and 96,000 tonnes of millet from 62,000 hectares, with the average yield being 15.5 quintals per hectare.

According to the ministry, Ukraine has started harvesting corn and sunflower. In particular, as of August 26 Ukraine had harvested 176,000 tonnes of corn from 44,000 hectares, with the average yield being 41 quintals per hectare, and 57,000 tonnes of sunflower from 37,000 hectares, with the average yield being 16 quintals per hectare.
