Some 13 agreements on cooperation signed during Yanukovych's visit to China
Sep 2, 2010 at 16:33 | Interfax-UkraineA ceremony for signing documents was held in Beijing on Thursday after a meeting between Yanukovych and Chinese Leader Hu Jintao. In particular, the leaders signed a joint statement on advancing the Ukrainian-Chinese relations in all areas to a new level.
In addition, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko, Vice Prime Minister Andriy Kliuyev and their Chinese counterparts signed the document on the key directions of Ukrainian-Chinese cooperation from 2010 to 2012. Ukrainian Economy Minister and Chief of the Customs Service of Ukraine signed an intergovernmental agreement with China on China's giving a grant for the introduction of the system of verification of the genuineness of valuables declared at Ukrainian customs.
In addition, a cooperation agreement between the Chambers of Commerce of Ukraine and China and a program of cooperation in the space sector for 2011-2015 were signed. The parties signed an agreement on the construction of a railway from Boryspil International Airport to Kyiv and an agreement on the construction of a gas turbine hydroelectric power plant in the town of Scholkine in Crimea.
The Ukrainian president said after the ceremony, that Ukraine could attract investments worth a total of $4 billion under the signed agreements. In addition, Yanukovych said that Ukraine and China would soon prepare a new strategic agreement.
"We have agreed with Chairman Hu Jintao that we will choose a convenient time and our staff will prepare a new strategic agreement in the near future, which will, in fact, turn a new page in relations between Ukraine and China," Yanukovych said.
