Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has attended the opening of a business forum in Beijing with the participation of Ukrainian and Chinese businessmen.

"I am sure that this forum will become an important contribution to the development of mutually beneficial trade, economic and investment cooperation between Ukraine and China," he said, expressing hope that such events will now be conducted on a permanent basis.

Yanukovych said that the comprehensive development of cooperation with China, which was and is a main partner for Ukraine in the Asian and Pacific region, was currently being considered in Ukraine as a foreign policy priority.

The head of state said that China was currently a country that has chosen a unique path of its development and achieved impressive results. Yanukovych noted that the economic performance of China over the period of reform clearly demonstrated what success can be achieved if concord and political stability prevail in the country.

"Today Ukraine turns a new page in its foreign policy – a page of maximally active cooperation and new opportunities. One of such opportunities is China," he said.

Yanukovych drew the attention of Chinese businessmen to the fact that Ukraine has a unique economic potential, with modern industrial capacities and natural resources.

He noted that Ukraine would not return to the period of instability. Yanukovych expressed confidence that the country now had fundamental prerequisites for success such as stability and order.
