Ukraine's Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has invited Singaporean businessmen to invest in the Ukrainian economy.

"We look forward to your visit, which will allow Singaporean investors to better understand our country," the Ukrainian government’s press service quoted him as saying at a meeting with Singapore’s Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on Monday.

Azarov said that Ukraine had "absolutely liberal banking legislation that will help investors not only invest funds, but also remove them if necessary."

He said that Ukraine was particularly interested in cooperation in the area of new technology. In particular, the government is planning to implement six large-scale national projects within the next decade, he added.

"Through these projects, great advantages will be offered to companies," Azarov said.

Lee, in turn, said that the purpose of his visit to Ukraine was to expand trade and economic relations between the two countries and establish business contacts.

"The main thing is to provide such conditions for investors so that companies come to the country and are confident in their future," he said.

He said that Ukraine needed investment from developed Western countries that could provide advanced technology and modern methods of management.

"Working with such technology for five years or more will help [Ukraine] develop its own methods on this basis. This is the easiest way to development," Lee said.
