You're reading: Ukrainian banks see 56% fall in net losses January through August

Ukrainian banks' net losses January through August 2010 totaled Hr 8,945 billion, which was 56% down on the same period last year (Hr 20,503 billion), the National Bank of Ukraine has reported on its web site.

The banks’ net losses in August 2010 alone were estimated at Hr 321 million, whereas they amounted to Hr 317 million in July 2010.

The banks’ revenues in the first eight months of 2010 shrank by 7.4% year-over-year, to Hr 89.3 billion, while their expenditures fell 16%, to Hr 98.2 billion.

"Interest costs took first placein the structure of expenditures in 2010 (42.7%) again. Transfers to the reserves, which formed the bulk of spending amid the crisis, accounted for 32.1% as of September 1, 2010," reads the report.
