Russian-British company TNK-BP is ready to invest over $100 million in methane extraction in Ukraine, Deputy Fuel and Energy Minister of Ukraine Ihor Kiriushin has told journalists in Kyiv.

TNK-BP has prepared a draft memorandum with the Cabinet of Ministers on methane extraction at one of coal extracting enterprises in Luhansk region.

The deputy minister said that there are some other companies interested in the realization of project on methane production in Ukraine, among them are British-Dutch company Shell and U.S. company Chevron.

As reported, in May 2010 Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said that TNK-BP was mulling methane extraction in Ukraine.

The president said that the participation of TNK-BP in methane extraction is interesting and important for Ukraine not only from the economic point of view but also taking into account work safety at Ukrainian coal mines.
