Dilmah, a large international tea producing company, is planning by 2013 to double its share of the Ukrainian tea market to 6%, Ivan Bartian, the head of the Dilmah representative office in Ukraine, told journalists in Kyiv on Monday.

"Our task is in two years to double our share in Ukraine to 6%," he said.

According to Bartian, to achieve this goal, the company is intending to change approaches to the sale of its goods on the Ukrainian market. In particular, in September 2010, the Dilmah-Ukraine company was created, which will deal with Dilmah tea imports and promotion in Ukraine.

Bartian said that the task of the new company is to organize distribution so that the tea can be sold in the maximum number of trade outlets.

In 2009, the share of Dilmah tea on the Ukrainian market was 2.9%.

Dilmah founder Merrill J. Fernando said that until now the company had been working in Ukraine through distributors, who "brought our business to a sad state."

He also complained about difficulties with visa formalities in Ukraine, calling on Ukrainian authorities to simplify the visa regime with Sri Lanka.

Dilmah is one of the largest tea producers in the world. Currently the company sells its produce in 98 countries and operates as a family business.
