You're reading: Deputy prime minister gives priorities for infrastructure upgrades

Ukraine's upgrade process would develop in three directions, Ukrainian Vice Premier Borys Kolesnikov said at the seventh annual meeting in Yalta on Saturday.

He said that the first direction is development of business infrastructure in eastern Ukraine, which includes upgrade of airports and construction of new runways with the high capacity and building of exhibition centers and congress centers of the international level.

The second direction is development of agriculture in central Ukraine. The government plans to almost double grain planting through creation of economic incentives in the agricultural sector, to 100 million tonnes per year.

The third direction is development of tourist infrastructure in western Ukraine and Crimea.

The head of a working group for national projects of the Committee of Economic Reforms, Vladyslav Kaskiv, said that along with key directions of systemic upgrade, spot upgrade projects would be realized in Ukraine, which would promote radical changes in spheres that are important for the country.

The range of the projects is very wide – from the creation of a liquefied gas transportation system in Ukraine to provision of newest generation Internet access to Ukrainian students.

In contrast to a Russian approach, Ukrainian projects would be realized in line with business models, using funds of private investors and not state funds, Kaskiv said.
