The government is trying to conceal its loss of control over quickly spiraling inflation, the level of which in Ukraine has long since topped 10%, according to Natalia Korolevska, the head of the parliamentary committee for industrial and regulatory policy and entrepreneurship.

The committee’s press service reported on Tuesday, with reference to Korolevska, that the figures given by the State Statistics Committee seriously differ from reality.

"Wheras the government reports about 1.2% inflation, prices at stores have skyrocketed by 1.5-2 times. Even domestically produced potatoes at Luhansk markets were sold at a price higher than Hr 10. Moreover, the government is trying to conceal its loss of control over spiraling inflation," Korolevska said.

She said that the cause behind such concealment is the inefficient management of the economy.

She said that if the government claims there is a decline in inflation, it should back this up with data about the growth of consumption in the country, and the invigoration of lending in the real sector of the economy.

"But there is no such data," she added.
