An agreement on the modernization of the entire range of trade and economic ties between Ukraine and Russia has become the outcome of the seventh economic cooperation meeting of the Russian-Ukrainian interstate commission in Kyiv on Wednesday.

"We’ve agreed on the modernization of the entire range of trade and economic ties, the implementation of some important programs and key projects in such sectors as the nuclear energy industry, the oil and gas sector, aerospace, aircraft building, shipbuilding, the transport sector, agriculture and the power engineering industry," Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Kyiv on Wednesday.

At the meeting, the sides paid special attention to the development of integration-based relations, the implementation of large infrastructure projects, such as the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait, the construction of the Moscow-Kharkiv-Simferopol highway, and the launch of a high-speed passenger service between Kyiv and Moscow.

The sides also agreed on the development of transport corridors running across the two countries’ territory, mainly in the direction of Asia, and checkpoint infrastructure development on the Ukrainian-Russian border.
