Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law on market supervision and control over nonfood products, the presidential press service has reported.

The law is aimed at introducing market supervision and creating the legal and organizational bases for its implementation in Ukraine. The law does not envisage that the market supervision would be an additional system of state supervision and control in the sphere of economy, instead it will replace the existing system of state supervision of compliance with the standards, norms and rules.

The document also proposes to introduce in Ukraine a European-style system of control over imported products on the customs territory of a state that meets the requirements of the World Trade Organization.

The law does not apply to relations connected with supervision of food products, food additives and flavorings, dietary additives, animal origin products, fodders, plants and animals, spirits, alcoholic drinks and tobacco products, medicines (including drugs), veterinary medicines, special soluble materials, defense products and urban development objects.

The controls placed over products are aimed at making sure that products imported to Ukraine meet all requirements until their release for sale and to prevent imports of dangerous products to Ukraine.
