The European Union thinks that talks on the creation of a free trade area (FTA) with Ukraine could be completed before this summer, the press service of the Ukrainian government has reported, with reference to EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule.

"European officials want the negotiations to be completed before the summer," the press service quoted the commissioner as saying at a meeting on Tuesday with Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

Azarov, in turn, said that the appointment of First Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Kliuyev as Ukraine’s economy minister would help improve the negotiating process.

"The negotiations have reached a higher level," the prime minister said, adding that Kliuyev had been ordered to complete the talks soon.

Fule also said that he had invited Kliuyev to visit Brussels. Azarov supported the invitation, and added that he supported the idea of his government members "visiting Brussels more often and breathing the Brussels air."
