Ukrainians in February 2011 bought $1.305 billion more foreign currency than they sold, whereas the difference in January was $864 million.

As the National Bank of Ukraine reported on its Web site, Ukrainians bought $2.613 billion from banks and sold back $1.308 billion over the period. Currency purchases by households in February grew by 21.7 percent compared to January, while sales were up by 1.9 percent.

The overall amount of purchase and sale deals on the cash forex market in February was 14.3 percent up on January, to $3.921 billion.

According to the NBU, individuals’ bank deposits in hard currency expanded by $223.4 million last month, to $16.894 billion as of February 28.
