Kyiv, November 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The European commission has allocated EURO 6 million to implement a program to improve the level of ecological security in Ukraine, Head of the European Commission Delegation to Ukraine Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira said at a press conference on Wednesday.

According to him, a new project will be implemented in 2009.

"As the [shipping] accident [in the Kerch Strait in November 2007] shows, Ukraine needs to develop its capacity to react to emergency situations," he said.

Teixeira said the program is now being developed, but that is was too early to talk about concrete details.
